I studied and explored the Enneagram for many years, and have always enjoyed learning more about it and using it to improve my relationships.
I took many of the online tests, and felt frustrated. Different tests would produce different results. Many of them seemed like a series of “leading questions” I didn't fully trust. Many of the books seemed so linear and dry, and the way the results were presented was either confusing or just didn’t make enough sense to me. When I didn’t feel confident about answering certain test questions I began to doubt the validity of some of the results. . . it just seemed hard and complicated. This sparked me to think creatively about what I could dream up since the Enneagram is my absolute favorite thing.
I reached a turning point in my professional coaching business after 16 years and realized I wanted to go deeper into my growth path, and help my clients in a more transformational way. I decided to focus on Enneagram work going forward.
Since I'm a visual thinker, I loved imagining the Enneagram groups of 3 (TRIADS), and playing with the idea that if I could be clear in one of the numbers within a triad, I could narrow down my possible type into a choice between 3 numbers rather than all 9. I saw this as a different angle to find my type, it was different from traditionally starting with test questions. It was fun to see it as finding your type by entering through a "side door" into the Enneagram.
Next, I incorporated the other triad groups to help me explore this approach further. . . and then. . . imagining how it could all be color-coded, and VOILA! A card deck about the Enneagram!
As I tested my process with many different people (and happily was able to find their type every time!) I was able to see how my approach leaned toward “playing with the Enneagram” and that instead of doing a TEST this exploration could be more FUN.
As the cards evolved and I felt clearer about how they can all work together, I thought, HEY – these are going to need a name! - and FUNeagram™ happened. My purpose was clear from the beginning: to bring the Enneagram to more people, to make it more fun to explore, and to provide value for how to use this incredible tool.
Fast forward, I still can't get enough of the Enneagram. . . and I hope you find FUN on your own unique journey toward more love, compassion and understanding within and with the world.
